Finally! A Review of Last Season!

Let’s wrap up the end of the 2012 TV season, shall we?

As my summer nights grow shorter, this means only one thing-- a new crop of TV is just around the corner.

Before I launch into my annual review of the upcoming season, I need to close the books on last year’s interesting (?) television season.

One of the things that I think is worth point out is that when I think of last year’s season--and let’s be honest, I watched a majority of it--only two new shows crop up in my mind as ones that made the cut of regular watching--even though we clearly watched more.

The “I Can’t Believe this is One of My Favorite Shows” Award (aka The Guilty Pleasure):

Hands down Hart of Dixie. In no particular order, here are the reasons why:

1. Jason Street (aka Jason Porter). I find him charming and delightful. Even though my love for him began during Friday Night Lights (What?! You never watched. Stop. Enjoy all five seasons now. You’re welcome.), I believe I knew he had some sparkle to him from his brief work in Music and Lyrics:

2. Let’s make the old Star’s Hollow set look like Alabama. Ahhh, Gilmore Girls.

3. Really, could Rachel Bilson be any cuter? Sure it is completely and utterly ridiculous that she wears that short of shorts everywhere, but I’m buying it.

4. Who doesn’t love a good love triangle?

The “I Can’t Believe I’m Hooked On Another Serialized Mysterious/Convoluted Back Story” Award (aka The Lost-like show):

Once Upon a Time

Lots of great actors, lots of great backstory, lots of great intrigue. Plus Fairy Tales!

The “It is Always a Good Idea to Let a Show Work Out its Issues” Award (aka I didn’t like it at first, but now it works for me show):

She’s adorkable, New Girl.

It took awhile for it to grow on me, but eventually it found its groove and became reliably funny.

The “I Can’t Believe I Watch This Every Week” Award (aka embarrassingly politically incorrect train wreck show):

This one isn’t a guilty pleasure. I’m not sure what it is, other than very raunchy. Two Broke Girls.

I hate that I laugh on a regular basis.

And our final award:

The “This Ain’t Yo Mama’s Silk Stalking” Award (aka my most favorite show on the USA Network show):

It is easy to give it a blanket “They are all really good” statement, but overall, between White Collar, Covert Affairs, Necessary Roughness, Royal Pains, Psych, Suits, Common Law, and Burn Notice (which I don’t really watch anymore), the winner is....

Suits

If you don’t watch the shows on USA, and you enjoy things light and frothy, this is the network for you. Although they are definitely embracing the new FCC rules on cursing and such. Bull$h^# seems to be their favorite line these days.
