Too Much Tuesday

Today's FWP with the DVR. Last night I set my handy-dandy device to record Madam Secretary, since all the guides everywhere said it would be on. What does CBS show instead? CSI. Not cool, CBS. Not cool.

Anyway, after surviving this devastating problem, I'm now looking ahead to tomorrow. And boy, howdy, there is a lot of new television on this night. A lot.

Starting with the alphabet network, there is Selfie. Now the thing that puts Selfie in the plus column for me is John Cho. Yes, Harold. I don't know why I love him, but I do. Anyway, ABC streamed the pilot awhile ago, and I got a little bored with it, but Emily really liked it. Our heroine is rater vapid, but that is where Cho comes in. He's Henry, she's Eliza, so it is My Fair Lady in the digital age as she learns to live life offline. (Wait...is that possible?). Most of the critics say it is better than its title and worth giving a shot. I'll watch it again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQqozmwlE00

Manhattan Love Story is not receiving immense amounts of critical love. It's focus is--wait for it--a love story, and the gimmick seems to be we hear all of their thoughts with the actors doing voice overs. Um, huh? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APzkIcR4OXE

As for Forever, there might be something worse than not giving love or being critically panned. And that could be the crickets of not making any list whatsoever. While some optimistically point out that it could have sleeper potential, others compare it to the short lived New Amsterdam from six years ago. Starring Ioan Gruffudd (who won my heart in the Fantastic Four), it is the story of New York's top rated medical examiner. But this ain't no Quincy, ME going on here. It seems our hero is so good at studying the dead because he can't die. He's trying to figure it all out. This isn't your typical ABC fare, so I'm not sure how it will do. Tonight and tomorrow is a two-night roll out premiere, so we will see. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaCTj9NNDSg

CBS gives us a third NCIS after the original tonight. And once again, even thought I love me some Gibbs, I figured USA could keep me in NCIS reruns/catch-up loop for life. However, NCIS: New Orleans does bring something else to the table that I love. That'd be Scott Bakula. And now I realize I need to make sure my children have a Quantum Leap marathon on Netflix here soon. Anyway, it is a brand you either love or don't, set in a new location. It will most likely do well, because that's CBS' formula. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ep2AUpnb9A

As we jump over to the CW and The Flash, the key things you need to know here are that this show is getting huge amounts of critical love, and if you like the comic book genre, then you already know about it. Zach and I watch Arrow with great intensity and regularity every week, so we saw all of the build up for The Flash last season. The promos are fun, and if this is your type of show, then you'll love it. Add in Tom Cavanaugh (Ed) and Danielle Panabaker (Sky High. Best. Disney. Movie. Ever.) and I'm ridonkulsously excited. But then again, one could argue that I don't have much of a life. Trailer time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj0l7iGKh8g

FOX airs drivel in the 8 p.m. slot. It's been on for awhile already, with a launch on their website first. A reality show where the contestants try to create their own version of Utopia. Um, yawn? The 24 hour web feed at first got lots of buzz, but it has since died down. People, I think, are over the concept here. But if you like this type of TV, then okay...here you go.

NBC has a new comedy at 9 p.m., with two of my favorite actors. If you liked Happy Endings, then you are probably already a Casey Wilson fan. And if you are a Veronica Mars fan, then you like Ken Marino (Vinnie Vanlow). Anyway, this show is on the give it a chance list of many critics. Since the title of the show is Marry Me, I'm thinking there's a proposal at some point for a couple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyIuHEfNmYM

And the coveted DVR space/viewing time winners at the Christmas-Harris house are:
Most likely, we will DVR The Flash, and catch the ABC comedies sporadically. If we get into The Voice this season, we will catch it on demand. Because of the now overflowing comic book genre clogging our screen time, you'd think we take a break. Nope. The whole hydra revelation during the back half of Agents of SHIELD's first season made that show considerably more interesting. We'll be watching that. We will also catch the NBC comedies sporadically as well. Zach marathoned Supernatural this summer, so he'll probably continue on his own there. I'd need to start from the beginning at this point. Chicago Fire wins our 10 p.m. hearts, and we will see if Forever gains a foothold. Despite the local ties with Person of Interest, we've never really watched.
